Only haters will disagree with my award – Ras Kuuku
Dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku has not hidden his excitement since he won Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) last Saturday, August 29 and he says it is only his haters who will say he didn’t deserve it.
According to the Nwansina hitmaker, he had been yearning for the award for a very long time and his hard work had finally paid off.
“Everyone saw how happy I was last Saturday and that was because I have been yearning for this award for a long time and now my prayers have been answered.
“It will be wrong for anyone to say that I won because Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were not in the competition. Ras Kuuku has been there doing great music and Ghanaians are aware of it. It is my time so haters should just let me be. I deserve the award because of my hard work,” he told Graphic Showbiz.
Ras Kuuku said if no one complains when Samini wins then Ghanaians should not say it was cool ‘chop’ for him because Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were not in the picture.
“If a legend like Samini could rally behind me and tell Ghanaians I deserve the award then that should tell anyone that indeed I worked hard for it. Since winning the award the likes of Rocky Dawuni and other great Reggae artistes have congratulated me and I am so pleased,” he said.
Moving forward Ras Kuuku said the award will make him work harder than before. “We have been working and this award will ginger me to work harder to even grab the ultimate award in some years to come,” he added.
He also advocated that he should be added to the Male Vocalist of the Year category.
“My voice is so raw and unique and anytime I am added to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Male Vocalist of the Year category I am just going to win it,” he said.
Ras Kuuku has had a love-hate relationship with Charterhouse and the VGMA. In 2017, he storm out of the Accra International Conference Centre where the event was held after losing out in the Reggae Song of the Year category to Stonebwoy.
He believed his song Nwansina was the biggest song of the year at that time and he deserved to win.
Ras Kuuku, whose real name is Jonas Kurankye joined the Ghanaian music industry in 2010 and has since dropped songs such as Wo, Show Dem Love, Nwansina, Kpagbum Style, Wani Aba, Bad System among many others.
On Saturday, September 5, Ras Kuuku will hold an appreciation party at the FK Lounge at Dome Pillar 2 in Accra to celebrate his Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year win.
